Annunciation 1528, Garfalo
I like this piece because it's very detailed and the way they portray the announcement of the Incarnation by the angel Gabriel is really beautiful. The lines are really clearly distinguished as well as blending in with it's folds. The background and wings of Gabriel is really well drawn.
Cvrček's Dream 1981, Kurt Gebauer
I like this one because when I look at it, I feel really laid back and relaxed. It seems as if it's a universal representation of those laid back days when you can just take a nap. The bird also adds a bit of humor into the composition of the piece because even the bird is relaxing.
The Isle of the Dead 1883, Arnold Bocklin
This piece gives a feeling of isolation which is exactly what Death is. When you're dead, you're not a part of the world anymore and you're being isolated into a whole new dimension of some sort. The isolation is shown through the space of the background and the water around the small island. The middle almost seems scary because of the dark trees.
Moonlit Night on the Dnieper 1882, Arkhip Kuindzhi
I really like the different shades and contrast of this piece. It emphasized on the brightness of the moon which shows a feeling of darkness yet with a light of hope. It's like when you're all down and vulnerable, there's that one light of hope that shines through.
Meditation 2004-2005, Jiri Kornatovsky
This piece has a really detailed lines and the different shades expressed through the lines shows a rhythm or movement of the lines. It's like the lines are constantly moving inwards into the black whole. The piece is really condensed and focused, seems like it puts an emphasis on the density of things, just like when you're meditating you have to focus.
