What Do You Want To Do?

Write about what it is you are thinking that you would like to study in college for art or design.

Paragraph 1 Why are you thinking about this concentration?

For college, I would like to study as a art therapy major. The reason I'm interested in that major is because ever since elementary I would always be the one helping or comforting my friends; I'd feel useful to my friends when I help talk things out with them. Ever since then, psychology has been a great interest of mine. After I took the AP Psychology course I knew that I wanted to continue with psychology along with art because I believe that art can serve as a stress reliever and comfort for a lot of people.

Paragraph 2 What do you want to do with this major?

Before I knew that art was a choice for my college future, I always wanted to become a therapist. After I really got into art, I found that for a lot of people art is a great way to vent without bothering people and taking up other people's time. Because of that I still want to become a therapist but instead of prescribing drugs, the patients would receive art lessons or whatnot. I also want more people to understand the power of art; to understand that art isn't just something to see, it's also something that can influence society, people, minds, and physical reactions. I also want to understand and learn more about how different types of art affect us psychologically as well as physically.

Paragraph 3 What projects do you think you can do next semester to show that you are interested and able to work in this area of art or design?

For 2D art projects, I think a project consisting of 2 pieces that contrast 2 opposite emotions and see if others will be affected when looking at the piece. Line art and finger painting are also good ways to express a person's emotions so using those techniques it's really easy to be expressive and serve as an emotional release; it's also great for self-exploration both psychologically and art wise. Another project that I would like to pursue would be having many people write and paint their own balloon and collect them and arrange them into one whole piece. The reason behind the balloon idea is because many people said that writing their thoughts onto a balloon or paper then ripping it or letting it go into the air serves as a stress relief.
